Nowadays, the UK, the US, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as mainland China's big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are promoting 3D products into campus, setting up dedicated 3D printing laboratories, offering relevant courses and training teachers to carry out innovative education for students.
In recent years, an increasing number of higher education majors are exploring a perfect innovative teaching mode, which combines 3D printing technology with the teaching system. On one hand, adopting 3D printer can improve students' proficiency in technology and cultivate their scientific and technological literacy. On the other hand, the 3D models printed could significantly improve the creativity of students and promote thinking development.
At present, the most applied 3D printing technologies in teaching are SLA, FDM and DLP, which are mainly used to make models. By contrast, DLP technology is broadly used in education field of universities at home and abroad for its strengths of technical maturity, rapid prototyping capacity, fast processing speed, short production cycle, avoiding of cutter or molds as well as the low fixing costs, etc. Besides, it’s available to utilize online operation and remote control to build prototypes or patterns with complex structure or which is hardly produced in traditional methods.
